About

This blog was formerly called “South Florida For Beginners.”  As time went by, it became more and more about local politics, but as the incredible events of the 2016 election unfolded, I felt much more moved to write about national politics.  Hence, the change in focus.

This is an extraordinary and perilous period in our nation’s history.  I believe we all need to be engaged in shaping what happens.

Me:  Partnered GWM, retired.

Welcome. We, and our archives, can give you a crash course on the underbelly of Miami politics. Proceed with caution, you might want to go back to where you came from.

Btw, if Meek dropped out like Clinton asked him to, Rubio would not be a Senator.

  2. Thanks. I’ve been reading your back posts for a few weeks as I get time, and am very impressed with what you’ve done with Eye on Miami, I admire your dedication and perseverance, as well as the depth of the analysis..

I appreciate the cautionary note, but I pretty much knew what I was getting into. And years living in DC have left me few illusions about the reality of politics.

The last comment about Clinton and Meek is fascinating. I wasn’t paying much attention to Florida politics back then, but I’ve been wondering how the Democrats managed to come in third with two Republican candidates running against each other.

  3. Because Crist was never really a Republican wacko. He was a moderate and many Democrats liked him. I voted for him. If Meek were not in the race we would have Crist as our Senator.

    Dave:

I’ve been producing a documentary film on The Bayou nightclub in Georgetown. It will air on MD Public TV in February…and we’ll have a sneak preview at the Washington West Film Festival in November. I recently came across your stark photo of the club on 1/2/1999. Would love to talk about possibly using it in the film. See more: http://www.bayoudoc.com

  5. Just discovered your blog.

  6. I also just discovered your blog. I occasionally comment or even diary on Daily Kos but have been feeling alienated by being surrounded by opinionated Cuban whack jobs so mad at John Kennedy that they have lost their self interest. I am a SWM who was raised in the old south and taught empathy such that I can empathize with Ros-Leightinen while despising her knee-jerk republicanism..
